Home Remedies to Get Easily Rid of Mosquitoes

1. The Dry Ice

Dry ice is known for its carbon dioxide emitting properties. Luckily, mosquitoes love carbon dioxide. Where there is carbon dioxide, there are mosquitoes. Now you can make use of dry ice to create a trap. If you place some dry ice in a corner of the house, the probability of mosquitoes getting attracted to becomes high. You’ll get some time free from those annoying sounds they make!

On the other hand, you can also put dry ice in a jar. As soon as the mosquitoes enter the jar, simply close the lid and throw it million miles away!

2. Mosquito Traps

You can buy a mosquito trap from market or can easily make it at home. For preparing homemade mosquito trap, you need a plastic bottle. Cut this bottle in half. Add brown sugar in hot water and mix well. When it cools down, empty it in the bottom half of the bottle. Now, add yeast. Put the funnel part into the other half of the bottle in upside down direction. Wrap a black tape on the bottle, but the top should be uncovered. Place it in the mosquito prone area. Change the solution of the bottle after every 2 weeks.

This method of mosquito trapping is known as sugar yeast fermentation method. This is a convenient and cheap way to get rid of mosquitoes as materials used for trapping are easily available.

3. Garlic

Extract of garlic has mosquito larvicidal properties. It has a compound called Allicin. This compound reveals a strong odor. Garlic prevents the innumerable diseases caused by these parasites. The smell of it is also allergic to the insects, thus keeping them away from you. Crush a few cloves of garlic and boil the crushed garlic in water for some time. Then pour this homemade mosquito repellent in a spray bottle and squirt it around the room. This remedy will kill the mosquitoes.

Eat garlic daily to avoid mosquito bites . You can also rub a garlic clove directly on the skin.

4. Salt

Sodium Chloride or Salt keeps Mosquitoes at bay. Salt acts as a mosquito repellent. For the purpose of applying it on your skin, dissolve the salt in water. Then, apply this mixture on your skin. In addition, you may also spray the mixture in the entire house so that mosquitoes won’t stay in!

Mix iodized salt and water and make a fine paste. Apply on your skin and also, this water can be sprayed in the surroundings.

5. Mint

Mint is an amazing mosquito repellent. It is famous as insect deterrent. You may use it any way it suits you; indoor or outdoor. Either you can apply mint oil on your skin or just plant mint at your home. One specific mixture that is popular involves mixing of five parts of rubbing alcohol with one part peppermint oil. Just spray the mixture on the exposed parts of your body before going out. This not only works well for mosquitoes, but for several other insects as well. The smell of Mint has many effects. Mint is the best indoor mosquito repellent from ancient times. It is a natural insecticide with fresh and minty aroma. You can use it as a bug spray to repel mosquitoes. Studies have proved that essential oils are most effective against mosquitoes, specially peppermint oil.

Note: This oil can irritate skin, so be cautious while spraying it.

6. Camphor

Camphor is another home remedy to get rid of mosquitoes in an environment-friendly manner. The best answer to kill mosquito at your house. It’s a toxin and thus a great repellent for keeping insects away.
Mosquitoes do not spend a minute next to camphor. It is the longest repellent made from the extract of a tree.

Just close all the doors and windows of the room. Then light camphor and leave it for about half an hour. When you go back to that room after some time, you will not find any mosquitoes. You can also use camphor balls and Neem oil as a natural mosquito repellent. All you need is 3-4 Camphor balls, 1 cup Neem oil and 1 emptied refill bottle. Fill the bottle with the given ingredients and then fix the bottle to the machine. Now you can use this as a natural mosquito repellent device.

Alternatively, you can make a mixture of 1 ounce oil of citronella, 1 ounce spirits of camphor and 1 ounce oil of cedar. Spray few drops of this mixture on the bath towel and attach it over the bed. This will repel the house mosquitoes. Citronella oil provides complete protection from mosquitoes.

Do’s

- Plant trees and shrubs, they don’t lead to breeding of mosquitoes but keep your house mosquito – free.
Tulsi, mint, and marigold shrubs, lemon and neem trees, citronella grass when planted keeps you safe from dreaded vector- borne diseases by preventing the breeding of mosquitoes.
Ornamental ponds and fish tanks must be aerated to prevent breeding of mosquitoes. Especially in tanks which have mosquito – eating fish.
Do hang a mosquito net above the bed as the repellent coils work for few hours but the net at night keeps you safe from the mosquitoes.
Keep the windows and Doors shut to prevent the entry of mosquitoes leaving sufficient amount of air to enter the house. Screens can be used.
Keep the swimming pools cleaned and chlorinated even when you are away to avoid it from becoming a mosquitoes breeding ground.
Use a mosquito trapping system.
When you see a mosquito flying around kill them immediately. This keeps the atmosphere relatively mosquito free.
If there are babies at home, make them sleep under mosquito nets as some remedies can’t be used on their tender skin.
Usage of LED lights, yellow bug lights, sodium lights are advisable as they are also mosquito- repellent lights. This is to keep mosquitoes away from light as they are easily attracted by light.
As said earlier, keep slices of lemon with cloves on them on doorways of your bedroom or drawing room so mosquitoes are away from the place.

Permethrin can be sprayed on clothing and also applied on the skin. Though this is not a natural remedy, it helps effectively repel mosquitoes. But, do not expose babies to this chemical .

Instant Relief From Mosquito Bites

There is no instant relief if there are many bites all over the body.
Sleep with a net over your bed. Put a scotch tape on bites to avoid scratching.
Change bedding if they are near a window as mosquitoes breed from tall trees.
If fever continues more than three days, do consult your physician.
